VISIA is a skin-analysis system from manufacturer Canfield Scientific that we use at I Care Clinic to map your skin objectively — not to treat, but to inform a treatment. Using standardised photography and several light sources, the system measures both surface and subsurface skin features, and compares the results against a reference group of the same age and skin type. The result is a factual picture of your skin's condition, as a basis for advice.

What is the VISIA system?

VISIA is an imaging-based analysis system from Canfield Scientific. A fixed setup with positioning aids and standardised lighting captures a series of standardised facial images. Because the captures are reproducible, they can be compared objectively at different points in time. It is a diagnostic/analytical tool — not a treatment device.

What it measures

The system analyses eight skin features, on the surface and below it:

  • Spots — brown or red marks and irregularities
  • Wrinkles — fine lines and deeper folds
  • Texture — smoothness and relief of the skin
  • Pores — size and distribution
  • UV spots — subsurface pigment from sun damage
  • Brown spots — pigment (lentigines, melasma, etc.)
  • Red areas — vascular structures and redness
  • Porphyrins — bacterial residue in the pores (relevant for acne)

It also provides a skin-age indication (TruSkin Age®) and percentile scores relative to a reference group.

How the analysis works

  • Multispectral imaging: standard white light, cross-polarised flash and UV photography together capture surface and subsurface features.
  • RBX® technology: separates the colour signatures of red (vascular) and brown (melanin), making subsurface pigment and vascular structures visible.
  • Standardised, reproducible captures: the same positioning and lighting every time, for reliable follow-up over time.
  • Reference comparison: your scores are compared to people of the same age and skin type.

What we use the results for

The analysis provides a factual starting point for the consultation: it helps determine which skin features deserve attention and which treatment suits them. Because the captures are reproducible, the same measurement can be repeated later to follow the skin over time. What the results mean for you is discussed during the consultation.
