A medical peel is a dermatological treatment that improves skin texture and appearance through the controlled removal of the upper layers of skin. This stimulates the regeneration of new skin cells and helps address problems such as acne, pigmentation and fine lines. Depending on the strength and composition of the peel, it can work superficially, medium or deeply. The stronger the peel, the greater the effect, but the reaction, such as flaking, redness and exfoliation, can also be more intense. A medical peel improves skin hydration, stimulates collagen and elastin production, and creates rejuvenated and radiant skin.
A medical peel is an effective treatment for a variety of skin problems, such as acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, uneven skin texture and coarse pores.
Medical peels are suitable for anyone aged 18 and over who suffers from:
• Acne and acne scars: Helps reduce active acne and the scars it can leave behind.
• Hyperpigmentation: Treats dark spots caused by sun damage or melasma.
• Fine lines and wrinkles: Reduces signs of skin ageing.
• Uneven skin texture Smoothes and evens out the skin.
• Large pores: Refines pore structure for a softer appearance.
Medical peels vary in depth and strength, depending on the type of skin problem being treated. There are superficial, medium and deep peels.
These peels use fruit acids or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), such as glycolic acid, lactic acid and salicylic acid. They are perfect for treating superficial skin problems, such as brown spots, fine wrinkles and acne lesions. The fruit acids renew the top skin layer and make the skin look fresher, smoother and firmer.
At the I Care Clinic, fruit acid peelings based on glycolic acid or salicylic acid are used. These peels are short-term, safe, and cause minimal irritation, allowing you to recover quickly and resume your daily activities without any problems. For optimal results, three to four treatments are usually advised, with a two-week interval in between.
Medium to deep peelings contain trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and/or phenol as active ingredients. These peelings are used for more stubborn skin problems, such as deep wrinkles, acne scars, and pigmentation spots. TCA peels are the gold standard for treating complex skin problems and provide smooth, radiant and younger-looking skin. After treatment, skin may flake and be red for a few days, but the result is firmer, healthier skin.

Prior to treatment, it is crucial to prepare the skin properly with special skin care products. These products improve the condition of the skin and soften the top skin layer, allowing the peel to penetrate deeper and give better results.
The medical peel itself consists of applying a chemical solution to the skin. This process involves several steps:
• First, the skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove dirt and excess oil.
• Next, the chemical peeling solution is applied evenly to the skin. Depending on the strength of the peeling, the solution has to take effect for a few minutes to hours.
• In some peels, a neutralising agent is used to stop the action of the chemical solution once the desired effect is achieved.
After peeling, the skin is moisturised and protected. A softening and moisturising cream is applied, followed by a sunscreen with SPF 50 to optimally protect the skin from UV damage during the recovery process.
• Improved skin texture: Provides smoother and more even skin.
• Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles: Peelings can reduce signs of ageing.
• More even complexion: Pigmentation spots are removed, resulting in a more even skin tone.
• Acne and acne scars: Effective in treating acne and reducing scars.
• Recovery time: Depending on the depth of the peel, recovery time can vary from a few days to weeks.
• Uncomfortable: The treatment may cause a burning or tingling sensation during the procedure.

The Milk Peel stimulates the epidermis, creates greater permeability and helps improve the overall condition of the skin. The peel has minimal downtime, meaning the recovery time is relatively short. It is also known as the “Lunch Peel”. The Milk Peel reduces fine lines, gives a brightening effect, reduces sebum production, improves the complexion and gives the skin a beautiful ‘éclat’. This peel is also ideal as a first medical facial skin improvement treatment.

Cosmopeel is a TCA peel that is highly suitable for improving skin with fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars and lentigo solaris, also known as age spots. Depending on the strength of the peel, the recovery time is 3 to 7 days. After the peel, temporary redness, swelling and/or flaking may occur. Cosmopeel is available in 4 different strengths: 12%, 15%, 18% and 20%.
Cosmopeel Forte is suitable for the treatment of wrinkles, advanced skin ageing and acne scars. The peel is painless thanks to its unique formula of 20% TCA with phenol, which has a numbing effect. After the peel, the skin looks fresher and more youthful. It is a very deep-acting peel that gives a beautiful visible result in the short term. One peel is enough to make the skin appear, on average, 5 to 10 years younger. The recovery time after a Cosmopeel Forte treatment is 7 to 14 days. After the peel, redness, swelling and peeling usually occur.
Melapeel Forte is suitable for reducing melasma, also known as pregnancy mask, and hyperpigmentation. This peel evens out the complexion, giving the skin a radiant and even appearance again.

A medical peel is available at I Care Clinic from €150.

During the treatment you may experience a mild burning or tingling sensation. This is temporary and disappears quickly. The intensity varies depending on the peel used and your skin sensitivity.

After a light peel there is hardly any recovery time. After a deeper peel you can expect 3 to 7 days of redness and flaking. After a Cosmopeel Forte the recovery time is 7 to 14 days. Your skin will then feel smoother and more radiant.

For superficial peels, an average of 3 to 4 treatments are recommended with an interval of 2 weeks. For a deeper peel such as the Cosmopeel Forte, 1 session can be sufficient for a lasting result.

Yes, but always protect your skin with an SPF 50+ sunscreen after the treatment. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 4 weeks after the peel to prevent pigmentation spots.
