Nordlys by Candela is a versatile light and laser platform we use at I Care Clinic for skin improvement. The device combines two technologies in one system: narrow-band IPL (SWT®) and the Frax 1550 fractional laser. This lets us target a range of skin concerns — from pigmentation and small vessels to scarring and skin texture — always tailored to your skin.

Nordlys is a multi-application platform: a single base device that works with different applicators. In our configuration we use the SWT® IPL applicator and the Frax 1550 fractional laser. Which one we use depends on your skin type and the concern being treated. We determine that together during a consultation and skin analysis.
SWT® IPL — narrow-band light
SWT stands for Selective Waveband Technology: instead of broad-spectrum IPL, the device sends narrow, targeted wavelengths of light into the skin. The result is less unnecessary heat in the surrounding tissue. We use SWT® IPL for:
Frax 1550 — fractional resurfacing
The Frax 1550 is a non-ablative fractional laser. It creates microscopic heat channels in the skin that trigger natural repair and collagen production, without fully removing the surface. We use it for deeper skin renewal:
The Frax applicator has integrated cooling (SoftCool™) for greater comfort during treatment.
Light & Bright (combination)
For some indications we combine both applicators in a single session: SWT® IPL for pigment and redness, followed by the Frax 1550 for texture. This is the so-called Light & Bright approach.
Comfort and recovery
Most patients find the treatment well tolerated; anaesthesia is usually not needed. After treatment the skin may briefly feel red or warm. Recovery time depends on the applicator used and the settings: [SWT IPL recovery time to complete] / [Frax 1550 recovery time to complete].
Number of sessions
The number of sessions varies by indication and skin type. As a guide: [SWT IPL number of sessions to complete] / [Frax 1550 number of sessions to complete]. During your consultation we set out a realistic treatment plan.
